Spolier alert: I'm still working on this.
That’ not to say I don’t know what it takes. It’s a lot of work. I’ve been trying to get this blog going for five years now and I’m still lacking motivation to get this passion of mine going.
Life tends to provide obstacles and detours. I wasn’t having in luck with the job hunt during the pandemic. I went back to school and got a masters degree. I still wasn’t having any luck landing a job. And now I have a my dream job but not without it’s own obstacles.
So because of this wild ride, I never gave a hundred percent to Love Books, Studio. It was always here, abandoned when I was busy and loved when I had nothing going for myself. Despite the challenges, this is still a passion of mine and I'm going to see it through!
Here’s what I know so far on how to write a book blog when you lost motivation
Reconnect With Why You Started
Are you a reader who just loves to talk about your favorite books? Maybe you’re trying to track your reading? Do you think the books on your shelves are meant to be shared with friends? Or are you trying to build a community? Write your "why" down. Keep it visible to ignite your motivation so you won’t leave your book space unattended to.
Switch It Up When You’re Bored
Burnout is real people! Definitely mix things up and try something new. Whether it’s a new post, new book, new challenge, new adventure, or new tactic, keep yourself guessing and your community wanting more.
Revisit Your Favorite Book Blog Posts
Scroll through old posts or comments. Notice what posts made you feel most excited. Then, repost one with updates or fresh thoughts. This will hopefully help you remember the joy you had writing it. When other people are excited, that energy will bounce to you.
When you start with those 3 tips to getting motivated again, here are some ways to keep the blog going.
You Have to Write
There is no way to not do this without writing. It’s where your thoughts go and ideas fly. It’s how we make friends and stay connected. If you think you can get by without sticking in front of your computer or phone without typing something, then maybe try vlogging instead.
Set a Realistic Posting Schedule
Don't aim for daily posts. This will only lead to burnout. Which, believe me, I’ve been there. Maybe start with 1 post a week or even 2 posts a month. Consistency and routine will get your far. Sprinkle some dedication and passion then you got yourself a full functioning book blog.
Create a Content Bank
I use a Google Doc to write down all my ideas. Then I move them to a Google Sheet and organize them in the order of when I want to post them. The list could be of book reviews, favorite quotes, day-in-the-life, books recommendations by theme, etc. Whatever you want to talk about on your blog, having all your ideas in one place will help in the long run.
Batch Your Content
Set aside 2–3 hours once a month to draft 3 to 4 posts at once. That’s just what I do. You can set aside 30 minutes a day and post 1 to 2 posts a month. Start small and work your way up. My goal is to share 2 posts a week with you all. So that means I’ll write for about 8 hours a month.
Definitely Reuse and Recycle
My favorite thing to do! I love sharing photos of a book on Instagram and using part of my review from the website as the caption. I’ll reuse the book to post for a specific day (Mother’s Day, First Day of Summer, Halloween, etc) and grab a quote that I loved and add that to the caption. Use what you have and mix things up. It’ll save you so much time and it’s fun revisiting books you loved before.
Be Gentle With Yourself on Your Book Blog Journey
It’s a lot of work to take on, especially if you have a job or a family or responsibilities that take up most of your days. Nothing has to be perfect. Most of us value honesty and acceptance. Would you listen to someone who lived a perfect life? Well, maybe, but sometimes it’s refreshing to bond with someone who feels the same way about things. That to say, be gentle with yourself. I know I’m trying to be.
What is Love Books, Studio
This space is meant to uplift and share amazing stories. There are so many authors and literary professionals deserving of a spotlight. I have so much appreciation, I can’t just sit around and gush all alone. This blog is where I want to boost the greatness of a writer, share a really cool story about publishing, chat with an editor or publicists about books, and be vocal in the literary community. Obviously I hid in the shadows for so long I’m nervous to get out there; but we won’t know where this will go if I don’t at least try. So here is me trying!
I honestly can’t wait to share all the books I’ve been reading this year. My goal is to hit 50 books and so far I’m 25 books in. Now seems like a good time to pick things back up. If you’re interested in following along with my book challenge, I’m using Goodreads as my accountability. Feel free to check out and follow my profile, Samantha’s Goodreads.
This is a short ‘n sweet introduction back into what I love doing. I cannot wait to make more bookish friends and gab about books! You can follow me on Instagram and Threads @lovebooksstudio. I share the books I’m reading and book that are just too pretty not to share online. You’ll see updates from the blog and any other experiences I find myself in.
Literary citizens, unite!
Thank you for joining me. Talk to you soon!
