Author Ashely Flowers delivers a page turner of a story in her debut novel All Good People Here. Each chapter reveals a little more of what secrets the town of Wakarusa carries. All Good People Here review

All Good People Here begins with Margot knocking on her uncle’s door in Wakarusa, Indiana. This is not a friendly visit. Actually, Margot is moving in with her uncle to help him manage his newly developing dementia. Uncle Luke Davies is Margot’s favorite uncle, and with the passing of her aunt, Luke’s wife, he has been on his own. Margot took it upon herself to care for him as she worked remotely from her journalism job.

As happy as Luke is there to see Margot, he assures her that he is fine on his own. Margot wants to believe him, but his sudden mood changes and disappearances don’t provide her with much reassurance. Margot takes on some of the household weight so her uncle can get a break from constant upkeep. As Margot runs errands around the town she once grew up in, she starts to hear whispers of a kidnapping from the neighboring town. Soon, Margot starts to hear the name January Jacobs. The revival of January’s case perks Margot’s interest, and as a journalist she cannot shake the need to want to learn more about January and connection to this recent case. This gets Margot into sticky situations all while doing her part in helping her uncle navigate his personal life. But some things Luke says gets Margot into more of a mess than she realizes.

Flashback to 1994 from the POV of Krissy, January’s mother, the story starts to unfold in a new way. Krissy doted on January, everyone seemed to take a fascination to the child. But when Krissy finds January dead in the downstairs basement and her son, twin brother of January, Jace standing at the top of the stairs asking Krissy if she wanted to play…the Jacobs family fall into a hellish nightmare.

Going from past to present throughout the novel, the author builds up the suspense by switching the perspective of the case. There are cliffhangers and rising tension that emits goosebumps onto your skin.

Hearing this story through Audible added a layer of intrigue. For me, I was able to give voice to the thoughts and a sort of picture that I did not do from reading. Narrators Brittany Pressley and Karissa Vacker perfectly captured the emotions and demeanor of their characters.

Their voices lent to the impactful story that Flowers beautifully wrote. I did not get taken out of the novel with the two voices; in fact, it differentiated the two perspectives to better tell each of the character’s story. Each quiver of a line, each joyful moment that the narrators acted gave life to the words. From the most heartbreaking scenes to the pleasant memories, Pressley and Vacker delivered a powerful performance.
