That’s where these 10 jobs for readers come in.


I don’t know about you, but I am determined to make books all about my career. You might be too! What I learned from grad school is that there are a lot of hidden pockets of careers someone can get into within books. It just takes some research to find these jobs. So for now, I am going to explore ten captivating job opportunities that cater to the bibliophile in you! Whether you're passionate about literature, fascinated by research, or want to share valuable insights, there's a career out there that perfectly complements your reading habit.

1. Librarian

As a librarian, you'll be surrounded by books every day. Some of the responsibilities that you may do can include curating collections, assisting patrons, and organizing events. Libraries are treasure troves of knowledge, you would want to spend every waking minute surrounded by that treasure. Librarians catalog, organize, and maintain the library's collection and all its events. They also help the community find the information they need, making it such a rewarding career for those who love connecting people with books.

Hi, book blogger here, and I am here to tell you that this is the best time I had ever had in a job before. Think of literary agents as literary matchmakers. They work closely with authors to develop their manuscripts and then pitch these works to publishers. Pro tip: read the acknowledgments in your books. Authors would shout-out every one who helped them create the book, that means sharing the name of their agents.

4. Editor

Now this is a big job. Editors refine and polish manuscripts, ensuring they're ready for publication. They have a sharp eye for detail and a love for storytelling. If you think you can find corrections and melt into the story of a book, it will come in handy in this role. Editors play a crucial role in the publishing process. They review manuscripts, offering feedback to authors, and polish the text to ensure it's error-free and engaging. I am keeping this more broad since there is SO MUCH to unpack here. A career in publishing encompasses various roles such as acquiring editors, production managers, and marketing specialists. You’re basically bringing the books to the masses. The publishing industry offers a wide range of career options. You can work as an acquiring editor, responsible for selecting manuscripts to publish, or as a production manager, ensuring books are printed and distributed efficiently. While income can vary, the satisfaction of sharing your passion is immeasurable. It is a tough job but seeing those happy faces that come into your bookstore is priceless.
